Good, a Democratic state representative from Sarasota seeking the area’s U.S. House seat, reported another strong quarter in her race to unseat Rep. Vern Buchanan, who, as of July, had raised more than $3 million for his re-election campaign. Good’s campaign has now raised more than $2.7 million overall.

“I am grateful to the thousands of supporters who have joined this effort to bring positive change to our community,” Good said in a prepared statement. “Clearly, the voters of the 16th District are ready for change and I look forward to working for them in Congress on the issues that are important to them, like strengthening our economy, solving our water quality issues, and lowering health care costs.”

Good’s Q3 numbers are more than two times higher than any of her campaign’s previous fund-raising periods.

Buchanan’s campaign has not released its latest fundraising numbers, which are typically announced closer to the mid-month Federal Election Commission deadline. In the second quarter, Buchanan, R-Longboat Key, reported raising $670,000, with $250,000 coming in in the form of a self-loan to his campaign.

“Trailing by 16 points in the polls, Margaret has raised far less than what Democrats spent in 2018 against Vern when he won in a landslide. No amount of money can hide the fact that Margaret was hand-picked by Nancy Pelosi to advance the radical left’s agenda to defund the police, open borders and replace Medicare with government-run healthcare,” said Max Goodman, Buchanan’s campaign manager.

Good’s announcement comes just days after her campaign launched a new advertisement featuring an endorsement from Scott Dennis, a longtime anchor and reporter for ABC7 Sarasota. In the ad, Dennis says he was a “lifelong Republican” before working in the media.

“Now, with my journalism career behind me, I am proud to endorse a candidate I believe in and a candidate I trust,” Dennis says. “Margaret understands and embraces the hard work to takes to represent the Suncoast.”

President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden have also recently endorsed Good’s campaign. Local officials who have endorsed Buchanan include Bradenton Mayor Wayne Poston and County Commissioner Carol Whitmore.

Buchanan and Good are running to represent Florida’s 16th Congressional District, which includes Manatee County and parts of Sarasota and Hillsborough counties. They are set to participate in a candidate debate hosted by METV on Oct. 23.

Election Day is Nov. 3.
