Small business loans awarded by Westmoreland County commissioners last week are helping companies in the Norwin area recover from economic setbacks created by the coronavirus pandemic.

Across the county, 260 small businesses were awarded grants totaling more than $4.3 million. Grants ranged from a few thousand dollars to a maximum of $25,000. They were funded through $31.5 million in federal funds funneled through the state as part of the government’s coronavirus relief program.

“It’s definitely going to be needed, especially because business is not where it should be when you have a really dry summer like this for a car wash,” said Brandon Lisotto, owner of Wash World Express along Route 30 in Irwin.

Lisotto is slated to receive $25,000 in grant money from the county after his business was closed from March to May when Gov. Tom Wolf ordered all nonessential businesses to shutter. Once the county reaches out with his contract and he receives the money, he plans to use it for payroll and to make up for lost income.

In addition to the county grant money, Lisotto also received the economic disaster loan and the paycheck protection loan distributed by the Small Business Administration.

“If we didn’t get those two things, we probably wouldn’t be in business,” he said.
