AMSTERDAM — Amazon said Tuesday it’s new delivery station at 1785 State Highway 5S in Amsterdam is now open. The station, which employs 175 workers, both full- and part-time earning $15 an hour and up, handles “last-mile” deliveries to customers.

The delivery station also depends on Amazon’s delivery service partners and Amazon Flex drivers. Packages are sent to the delivery station from the company’s fulfillment and sortation centers, to be loaded into vehicles for final delivery.

This is the second delivery station Amazon has opened locally in recent months. In August, it opened an AXML station at 30B Post Road in Colonie. The Colonie AMXL station handles larger, heavier products, such as TVs and sofas, and employs 50 people.

Amazon also opened its new $100 million fulfillment center in Schodack last month, a facility that is expected to employ 1,000 workers.

And it plans to open its first Amazon 4-Star retail store on the upper level of Crossgates Mall in the near future.

It’s only the second 4-star store in New York state. The other is in Manhattan. Nationwide, 31 of the 4-star stores are planned or open.

Amazon’s 4-star stores carry items that have garnered at least a four-star rating from Amazon customers. They also include top sellers and a selection of “new and trending” items. Products range from Bose wireless headphones to coffee makers, knapsacks and graphing calculators.

Shoppers can test-drive technology products from the Echo, Kindle, Fire tablet and Fire TV brands.
